New Delhi: The country’s largest public sector bank SBI has decided to increase home loans to Rs 10 lakh crore in the next five years. In January, SBI’s home loan portfolio crossed the Rs 5 lakh crore mark. Against this backdrop, the bank aims to double its home loan business in the next five years. SBI Chairman Dinesh Kumar Khara said that now that home loans have become the largest business segment for the bank, it will take this key segment towards further growth. The bank’s home loan portfolio has quadrupled in a decade from Rs 86,000 crore in 2011. SBI has said it has no such concerns as many banks are under pressure over their retail loan portfolios and is focusing on the sector for expansion. In terms of gross NPAs (NPAs), 0.67 per cent of the total loan book is home loans.
