President adopts less belligerent tone and says that Castello Branco is a ‘good manager’
The president Jair Bolsonaro (without a party) changed the tone when talking about Petrobras this Tuesday, the 23rd, stating that he does not want to fight with the state company and that the changes in command should bring transparency in the price policy. The company lost R $ 75 billion in market value just this Monday, 22, with the stampede of investors after Bolsonaro’s intervention in its management. On Friday, 19, the president announced the replacement of Roberto Castello Branco by General Joaquim Silva e Luna after a series of readjustments in gasoline and diesel prices. The market’s aversion caused the company’s shares to fall more than 20%. “Energy is an extremely important thing for us. We don’t have a fight with Petrobras, we do want it to give us transparency and predictability. We do not need to hide adjustments or whatever is part of the final price of fuels, ”he said. The president also complained about the press and mocked the melting of the papers. “I would like to greet all those who did not let themselves be carried away by the media fallacies, that Petrobras has already recovered 10% today. The accusations [de intervenção], as always, unfounded, lasted a few hours. ”
Bolsonaro also called Castello Branco a “good manager”, in contrast to the series of criticisms he has made against the president of the state-owned company in recent days. In a much less belligerent speech, the president praised Silva and Luna and the work that the general carried out at the head of Itaipu Binacional. “It is natural, when you have a contract, if you have a term to end the mandate, it will be renewed or another will be put in its place. A good manager came out, and another one, an excellent manager, is coming in ”, said Bolsonaro during the opening of an event that brings together mayors from all over the country in Brasília.
In nod to financial market, Bolsonaro also made a point of praising the Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, stating that the head of the economic team was “one of the most important people” in fighting the new coronavirus pandemic. The demonstration that the relations between the ex-captain and the Ipiranga Post continue firmly occurs amid the growing distrust of investors in changing economic policy and the erosion of Guedes in the government. “Obviousness, being a man who decides government finances, he [Guedes] he has friends and opponents, but everyone, everyone, he treated with great gallantry, ”he said.
