The number of orders from unemployment benefit US USA fell from 14,000 in the week ended Aug. 28, to 340,000, according to seasonally adjusted data published on Thursday by the US Department of Labor.

The result was below the expectation of analysts consulted by The Wall Street Journal, who predicted 345,000 requests.

The previous week’s total was slightly revised up, from 353,000 to 354,000 orders.

The number of continued orders, in turn, fell by 160,000 in the week ended August 21, to 2.748 million. This indicator is released a week late.
