The entrepreneur Joshua Gomes da Silva, owner of Coteminas, in the textile sector, was elected president of the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (fiesp). Gomes’ ticket, which was the only one to run, received 104 votes, while there were 4 annulments. In total, 113 entities around the state could have voted.
The businessman will assume his seat on January 1, 2022 and will end his term on December 31, 2025. Gomes da Silva will end the 17-year cycle of Paulo Skaf as president.
Supported by Skaf, the son of the former vice president of the Republic, José Alencar, had free way in the election after the Court annulled, in March of this year, the ticket headed by José Ricardo Roriz, president of the Brazilian Association of the Plastic Industry (Abiplast) and of the Plastic Material Industry Union of the State of São Paulo (Sindiplast ).
The judge of the 77th Labor Court, Angela Favaro Ribas, won the case for Fiesp and claimed that Roriz’s slate had not met all the requirements of the entity’s statute and regiment.
Although he secured the election of his successor at Fiesp, Skaf will personally leave the federation’s leadership after 17 years at the helm. During this period, he articulated a political career, running for the government of São Paulo in 2010, 2014 and 2018, without being able to go to the second round on either occasion.
