Promovalor’s president, Luís Filipe Vieira, will be heard at the Novo Banco inquiry committee on May 10 at 3 pm, as part of the hearings that deputies are making to the bank’s major debtors.
According to the schedule of hearings, the also president of Benfica will go to the Assembly of the Republic next Monday afternoon, after having asked for the hearing to be postponed due to a medical consultation.
On April 22, the chairman of the eventual parliamentary inquiry committee on the losses recorded by Novo Banco and attributed to the Resolution Fund, Fernando Negrão, of the PSD, revealed that Luís Filipe Vieira had requested that “the hearing be postponed to a later date to an appointment ”that I had made.
Within the scope of the commission of inquiry, and related to Promovalor’s debt to Novo Banco, Nuno Gaioso Ribeiro, manager of C2 Capital Partners, a company that bought loans owed by Vieira to Novo Banco, has already been heard.
The manager, who coincided with Luís Filipe Vieira for eight years (2012 to 2020) in the direction of Benfica and Benfica SAD as vice president and administrator, respectively, rejected the existence of a “channel of influence” at the club to restructure the debt of Promovalor, the president of Benfica.
“When the honorable Member says or insinuates that there is still and that there was a channel of influence, that is absolutely false and insulting for my part. You cannot imagine that people who are part of Benfica’s management, without remuneration, maintaining a professional life ”start to“ violate their professional duties ”, replied Nuno Gaioso Ribeiro to PS deputy João Paulo Correia on April 27.
Calling “coffee talk” the possibility of any conflict of interest, Nuno Gaioso Ribeiro recognized, however, that the fact that Promovalor knew the your company’s services “may have been important for the debtor and that may have given us peace of mind ”.
Asked by Congresswoman Mariana Mortágua about whether she had ever discussed “the business of Capital Criativo [anterior designação da C2 Capital Partners] with Luís Filipe Vieira ”, Gaioso Ribeiro denied.
“I never discussed with Luís Filipe Vieira the business of Capital Criativo and the business of Capital Criativo discussed with the shareholders are held at the headquarters, the general meeting, and with the representative of Promovalor, who as a rule was Dr. Tiago Vieira [filho de Luís Filipe Vieira]”, answered.
Nuno Gaioso Ribeiro also said he was unaware of “the financing history between Novo Banco and the debtor”, and that C2 Capital Partners “never had any participation shareholder or intervention in the management of the debtor company ”, Promovalor.
For the debt management of the company of the president of Benfica, a fund called Specialized Alternative Investment Fund was created in November 2017, having been “acquired from Novo Banco 133.9 million euros in credits” and also “restructured by Novo Banco ( that is, existing financing of 85.8 million euros remained on the bank’s balance sheet, making the operation a total amount of 219.7 million euros “, according to the manager.
Nuno Gaioso Ribeiro also said that “there have been operational difficulties in the fund that may compromise, in this unexpected and short-term situation, some objectives foreseen to reach after five years ”, resulting from the delay of the inclusion of assets in the fund and others related to“ complex litigation ”, difficulties“ very aggravated, finally , for the pandemic ”.
