Prime Time Zone, Webdesk: Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), the country’s largest automaker, reported sales of 35,187 units in December, down 10.3 per cent from December. The company sold a total of 39,230 units in December, 2019. In the domestic market, passenger vehicle sales grew by 3 per cent to 16,182 units, while in the commercial vehicles segment, the company sold a total of 16,795 units in the domestic market. The company said it was down 21.48 per cent from 21,390 units sold in December, 2019. Similarly, total exports rose by 3 per cent to 2,210 units in December. In December last year, exports stood at 2,149 units, the company said in a regulatory filing.
‘The company’s sales have been impacted in the face of continuing challenges in the international supply system. Sales have been hit especially by the shortage of microprocessors used in electronic control units, ”said Vijay Nakra, CEO, M&M Automotive Division. Demand continues even after the festive season. He expressed confidence that the new year industry will continue to grow better in this order.
Tractor sales up 25%
However, with the support of the agricultural sector, M&M tractor sales increased by 25 per cent to 21,173 units in December 2020, with a total of 17,213 units sold in December 2019, the company said. Exports stood at 1,244 units, compared to 17,991 units in December last year.
