Exit had been announced in September last year; PlayStation sale will not be affected
A Sony confirmed on Monday, 1st, that it will end its commercial activities in Brazil from the end of this month, as announced in September last year. With the decision, sales of TVs, cameras and audio equipment in the country will be stopped. In a statement, the Japanese electronics giant said it would maintain after-sales service and repair support for all of its products “for as long as necessary.” The company also said that other group operations, such as games, professional solutions and music, will continue to operate without any changes. This means that sales of the console and games from the PlayStation 5, released last year, will not change.
The landing of the company from Brazil was motivated by the “recent market environment and the expected trend for business”, as disclosed in September 2020. The Japanese company also stated that the measure “aims to strengthen the structure and sustainability of its business, to respond to rapid changes in the external environment. ” Mondial, a Brazilian company specializing in home appliances, announced the purchase of the Sony factory at the end of last year.
