Weekend markets started with losses. Indices that have been running at a loss for five days in a row continue today in a row. The growing fear of Kovid cases across the country seems to have gripped the markets.
The Sensex opened at 48,881 and the Nifty at 14,500. Markets plummeted early Friday morning. The Sensex was down 536 points at 48,667. The Nifty was down 182 points at 14,369. The rupee continued to trade at Rs 72.63 against the dollar.
U.S. markets ended in losses on Thursday. Rising bond yields and another rise in corona cases in Europe are hurting indices there. Asian markets, which received negative signals from there, also plunged into losses.
Indices of almost all sectors continue to be at a loss. Shares of Kotak Mahindra and HCL Tech were running at modest gains. ONGC, Tata Motors, GAIL India Ltd, Mahindra & Mahindra and Tata Steel were among the losers.
