Unemployment rate remains at 6.9% in February – ZAP

The prolongation of confinement during February did not increase the unemployment rate in Portugal, which stood at 6.9%, as it did in January, according to the National Statistics Institute (INE).

According to the Observer this Monday, the rate of youth unemployment fell 1.4% compared to January, to 21.6%.

The inactive population decreased 0.3% compared to January (less 8.8 thousand people), but it is 2.4% higher than in the same period (62.2 thousand more people). The inactivity rate was 34.6%, one tenth less than in January, but 0.9 percentage points more than in the same period last year.

As for the rate of underutilization of work, it was estimated by the INE at 13.9%, an increase of one tenth in relation to the previous month, having contributed to the increases of part-time workers, of the inactive in search of jobs but not available to work and the inactive ones available but not looking for a job. Compared to the same period last year, the increase in this rate was 1.2%.

Meanwhile, the employed population increased 0.2% (plus 9.2 thousand people), for a total of 4,677.5 thousand people with jobs. However, compared to the same period last year, it decreased by 1.7% (minus 78.8 thousand).

BE insists on more hiring in schools

The leader of the Left Bloc (BE), Catarina Martins, appealed to the Prime Minister for a reinforcement of teaching and non-teaching staff in schools, in order to prevent them from attacking problems again too late, on the day they start. the face-to-face classes of the 2nd and 3rd cycles, advanced the TSF.
