After 13 years, Britney Spears gets her first win against her father in court

Britney Spears got her first victory against her father, Jamie Spears, in the US Court. This Wednesday (14), the pop singer was authorized by judge Brenda Penny to hire her own lawyer in the guardianship process, which has lasted 13 years.

According to the New York Times, the artist’s choice is Mathew S. Rosengart, a lawyer known for representing celebrities in Hollywood. Until then, the artist had to pay a champion chosen by Jamie.

In addition to controlling the fortune, estimated at around US$ 60 million, he also rules his daughter’s decisions. In June, Britney said she was forced to use an IUD — a contraceptive method — so she wouldn’t get pregnant. At the time, she classified the maintenance of guardianship as abusive.

Hundreds of fans protested with posters calling for freedom near the courthouse in Los Angeles. On social networks, the hashtags #FreeBritney (freedom for Britney) and #LetBritneyDecide (let Britney decide, in free translation) were among the most talked about issues.

With the announcement of the first victory, the singer’s fans reacted in several languages. “Too happy for another win,” wrote a user identified as Sara. “My Britney is much closer to being free! How happy I am for her!”, celebrated João, another fan of the singer.
