While in the United States the telecatch giants strike billionaire deals to show their fights on TV, in Brazil the battle is outside the ring: companies struggle to get their programs on the air. And TV WA, which recently made headlines when it bought the rights to exhibit the matches of the World Cup qualifiers for football, is an important piece for a turn in this fight.
The BWF (Brazilian Wrestling Federation), the largest wrestling company in the country, is close to signing a contract with TV WA, as the league’s founder, Bob Júnior, says. TV News. The deal would mark the return of the company, which has had sporadic broadcasts on Band and YouTube on television.
Very affected by the coronavirus, the company had one of its best experiences last year with Walter Abrahão Filho’s channel. “I tried to do some shows [durante a pandemia], I did one in September, another in November with TV WA and some events on the drive-in system, but that system was not very nice. The event with TV WA was very nice “, says Bob Júnior.
Conceptualized, the BWF rings revealed the fighter Cezar Bononi, who currently acts in the North American AEW (All Elite Wrestling) – the weekly program of the league is shown in Brazil every Saturday, at 23h, on the Space channel.
The BWF fighters, on the other hand, spent much of 2020 isolated in their homes, training the way they could, since they were restricted to the resources of their homes. Since November, however, they have returned to the academy and, according to the company’s founder, in March they will be in full force.
Before TV WA, Band seemed to be the favorite to televise a weekly wrestling program. However, due to the coronavirus, this did not happen. “BWF, since it held that event at Band in December 2019, was well on its way, with companies, with sponsorships, with the broadcaster itself, but the pandemic came and got in the way,” says the fighter.
“As for TV WA, we have a good contact with them, who liked what we did a lot. It had a good return for us too, in terms of visibility. So we have a project to have a weekly program as well forwarded now. Just wait [o pico da Covid-19]. We talk a lot with them and, certainly, good things come from there “, says Bob Júnior.
According to the founder, the possible new weekly program would ideally have an hour in duration to show the main talents of Brazilian wrestling.
Sought by the report, TV WA did not comment on the negotiations with the BWF until the conclusion of this text.
