Professional who went down in history when narrating the Carnival in Rio by the extinct Manchete and who spoke about various sports on SporTV, Paulo Stein stated that he was fired from Grupo Globo in 2019 for being fat. “Even the very [William] Bonner already admitted that he lives on a regime “, he fired.
The revelation was made in a long interview with Ted Sartori and Anderson Firmino, from the channel Only Sports on YouTube. Sartori questioned the 73-year-old narrator as to why he was underused by Globo’s sports channel during the eight years he was hired.
“Anderson [Firmino, um dos entrevistadores], do you dream of working at Globo? Many journalists dream, the company pays well, do you dream? At TV Globo, the announcer and narrator cannot be fat, there he cannot. Do you know some? The reason I was fired last year was because of that. If you don’t make a regime and keep going … Bonner himself has already admitted that he lives on a regime “, he declared.
“In journalism, you don’t have a reporter, a fat presenter. I was an outstanding business there because I had built a name, the former director was my friend, Mario Jorge Guimarães. I care about these things, if I’m going to narrate spit at a distance, I want to do it in the best possible way. [estar acima do peso]”, completed the veteran.
He also said that the official reason for his resignation was to cut spending – the broadcaster sent Roby Porto away in the same wave of layoffs. Stein, however, did not buy the “excuse”.
“I was called in the direction and they told me that they were having financial difficulties and that they would have to cut expenses. But that turned out to be a lie because shortly afterwards several other professionals were hired”, he pointed out.
