Caco Barcellos transformed his home in the city of São Paulo into a studio so that he could resume Profissão Repórter, which returns to Globo’s grid on Tuesday night (23). Away from the station’s programming since December 2019, the journalist reinvented himself so that the program could be produced in the midst of the pandemic.
Director of the newspaper, Barcellos turned the guest room into a mini studio. Through two large screens, he presents the program, interviews, meetings and virtual conversations with editors of the newsroom and with reporters on the streets.
“To be successful, I had to learn to record myself within the confines of a small space. How to position the camera inside the wardrobe to get the best angles for recording, for example,” he explained in an interview with the newspaper Extra.
Caco admitted that it was not easy to adapt with his involuntary absence from the streets. “The decision for social isolation was an initiative of Grupo Globo to protect its professionals over 60 years from the risk of contamination. I am among them [Caco tem 70]. At the beginning of the pandemic, I found it very strange to experience this global humanitarian tragedy without being able to go to the streets to report “, he added.
Currently, the Profissão Repórter team has 13 reporters and videographers on the streets. Professionals will focus on news production on vaccination in Brazil, at a difficult time in the pandemic.
On March 5, Caco Barcellos turns 71. However, he will dispense with any type of celebration due to social isolation.
“I only intend to celebrate the birthday on the day they stick the vaccine needle in the entire population. It is not possible to celebrate while the virus is killing so many people,” he concluded.
