Icons of Brazilian popular music, Caetano Veloso and Paulinho da Viola received the first dose of the vaccine against Covid-19 this Thursday (4), in Rio de Janeiro. The two musicians praised health professionals and encouraged the population to get vaccinated. “Long live SUS,” wrote the Bahian, author of Reconvexo and several other successes. In addition to them, actress Susana Vieira was also immunized today. They are all 78 years old.
“The date has come for those of my age, I took the vaccine. First dose. Oxford / AstraZeneca. I always think that getting vaccinated is the right thing. In three months I take the second dose,” said Caetano in his social networks, in which he published a video to record the moment. “It doesn’t hurt that much,” said the musician after receiving the needle in his right arm.
Paulinho took CoronaVac, a vaccine developed by the Butantan Institute in partnership with the Chinese laboratory Sinovac. The singer and songwriter celebrated the fact that he was immunized, but regretted the high number of cases and deaths by Covid-19 in Brazil. Yesterday (3), the country recorded the highest number of deaths since the beginning of the pandemic: 1910, according to the balance sheet made daily by the consortium of press vehicles.
“The joy of being vaccinated today contrasts with the sadness of knowing that every day so many lives are being lost. The only tool we have is the care and the vaccine. Be sure to get vaccinated when your turn comes,” said the artist , which highlighted the importance of SUS and science to stop the pandemic.
“I leave here my thanks to those who work tirelessly to give us hope, to health professionals, to SUS, to the Butantan Institute and to Fiocruz. May more vaccines arrive as soon as possible to all Brazilians”, he added.
Susana Vieira, in turn, took the immunizer at the Gávea Planetarium. She was photographed when she arrived at the scene, but the press was unable to keep up with the moment she received the vaccine dose.
The three join the group of immunized artists, which includes the actors, Tarcísio Meira, Glória Menezes, Laura Cardoso, Lima Duarte, Ary Fontoura and Betty Faria, the singers Roberto Carlos and Ney Matogrosso and the presenters Raul Gil and Silvio Santos, among others.
According to the Rio de Janeiro City Hall calendar, vaccination in people aged 78 will continue until tomorrow (5). On Saturday (6) it is the turn of the elderly from 78 who missed their dates to be immunized.
