After exchanging caresses with Thaís Braz under the duvet at BBB21, Fiuk had a reaction that generated surprise and jokes: he burst into tears. The actor and the dentist preferred to keep secret whether they had sex or not, but feeling sad after a pleasurable time together is a warning sign for a diagnosis of post-sex dysphoria.
To TV News, gynecologist Lilian Fiorelli, specialist in female sexuality and urogynecology at USP (University of São Paulo), explains the reasons that can lead to deep sadness after sex.
“During sexual intercourse, there is a very large hormonal release.
With dopamine, endorphins, which give a sensation of pleasure, well-being. After orgasm, there is usually the release of another hormone called oxytocin, which is also called the love drug, which makes you want to stay close and relaxed “, he reports.
Without saying, of course, that Fiuk suffers from post-sex dysphoria, the doctor details what happens in the brain of those who show reactions similar to his. “When there is the release of all these hormones (which were supposed to be good, so to speak), for some people it is a very large variation. The very rapid drop in hormone levels can give the opposite effect to what is expected,” he adds.
The problem is a kind of adverse reaction to pleasure, which can manifest itself in other ways besides crying and sadness. “There is the most aggressive variant, with the desire to hit, scream, punch. It can also give anxiety, restlessness, palpitations, sweating”, lists Lilian.
What causes post-sex dysphoria?
The gynecologist says the diagnosis may be related to a genetic cause in the way the body regulates these hormones. Other psychiatric problems – such as depression, anxiety and panic disorder – can also be associated with post-sex dysphoria.
“Usually there is already some limiting belief, something psychiatric or psychological with the person in relation to sex, to shame, that can be triggered.
Sex is a relationship of complete lack of control over your body, your feelings, it is a very authentic surrender phase, and sometimes everything that you covered up comes up “, he analyzes.
Anyone showing signs of the problem should see a psychiatrist for follow-up. “There are cases in which it is necessary to take medication, to undergo therapy. It is a disease that needs treatment”, explains the doctor.
