New The Crown? Series to show youth of the first Queen Elizabeth

Starzplay revealed the cast and first images of Becoming Elizabeth. The series will present moments from the youth of Queen Elizabeth 1st (1533-1603). Among the promotional material made available, there is a video with actors and crew behind the scenes of the recordings. The period drama is still in production and has no premiere date.

According to the press release, the project promises to explore an almost unknown part of the early life of Elizabeth Tudor (Alicia von Rittberg), an orphaned teenager who became involved in politics and the sexual game of the British court. The death of King Henry 7 (1457-1509), his father, triggers a dangerous power struggle at the same time as European powers vying for control of the kingdom.

The monarch stayed on the throne for 45 years, between 1558 and 1603. “Elizabeth is such an icon that there are many pieces in the puzzle of who she was”, explains in the video Anya Reiss, creator, screenwriter and executive producer of the project .

“Becoming Elizabeth is a story about power and how to survive in a dangerous world,” says actress Romola Garai (The Miniaturist), who will play Mary, Henry 7’s eldest daughter. “It is as true a story today as it was 500 years ago,” says Alicia von Rittberg (Genius).

O elenco principal ainda conta com nomes como Oliver Zetterström (War of the Worlds), Jessica Raine (Informer), Tom Cullen (Knightfall), John Heffernan (The Pursuit of Love), Alexandra Gilbreath (EastEnders), Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones) e Alex Macqueen (Peaky Blinders).

Because of the theme, the new project can hitchhike the success of The Crown. Netflix drama stretches across the trajectory of the British royal family as it covers different seasons each season. At this year’s Golden Globe, the attraction won four trophies, including the best drama series. The first four years of the attraction are available in streaming.
