Punky’s revival, Levada da Breca (1984-1988), a famous series in the 1980s and 1990s in the United States and Brazil, won its first official trailer. With the title Punky Brewster (the same as the original attraction), the production will be shown on the streaming service Peacock and will bring back the actress Soleil Moon Frye as the protagonist.
In the video, Punky (Soleil) is now a solo mother responsible for three children and who still lives with her ex-husband, Travis (Freddie Prinze Jr.). With the help of best friend Cherie (Cherie Johnson), she is still trying to figure out what she wants most in life.
The preview also shows the protagonist meeting the orphan Punky Izzy (Quinn Copeland) will help her find her place in the world – just like Henry (George Gaynes) helped her in the original series.
The cast still has Lauren Lindsey Donzis, Oliver de Los Santos and Noah Cottrell like the other children in Punky’s life. Like Soleil, Cherie also returns to revive her character from the first version.
The original series told the story of Punky (Soleil), a girl abandoned by her parents who took refuge in an empty apartment in Chicago. In the building, she made friends with Cherie, Susie Garret (Betty Johnson), Cherie’s grandmother, and widower Henry, who later adopted her as a daughter.
The series was repeatedly reissued by SBT, from the 1980s to 2000, and returned to the air in 2015. The Brazilian broadcaster punky the original names, as it did with Chaves. Harry became Arthur Bicudo, Cherie became Cátia Alves and Susie, Luiza Alves.
With ten episodes confirmed for the first season, Punky Brewster debuts on Peacock on February 25. Check out the trailer:
