Mauro Sousa, son of the creator of Turma da Mônica, Maurício de Sousa, used his Instagram to complain about homophobia on the part of his followers on Wednesday night (24). “I usually lose hundreds of followers when I post affectionate photos with Rafa,” she wrote in the caption of an image next to her husband, Rafael Piccin.
He added that he is not concerned about the rejection of followers and will continue to post pictures with her husband.
In an interview with Extra in 2019, Mauro spoke about the way Maurício de Sousa faced the revelation of his homosexuality: “He was always very open-minded and accepted well from the beginning. I never suffered prejudices from the family”.
“I am a very privileged gay. I told my mother, who said she loved me and accepted me the way I was. Then she told my father, who reacted the same way,” he continued.
Mauro Sousa was the inspiration of Maurício for the character Nimbus, passionate about meteorology in comics. Several characters from Turma da Mônica are also inspired by the cartoonist’s children, such as Mônica, Magali, Marina, Do Contra, Maria Cebolinha, Professor Spada, Marcelinho and the twins Vanda and Valéria.
