Sonia Braga, one of the best known Brazilian actresses in the international market and Alice Braga’s aunt, was confirmed in Shotgun Wedding, a new action comedy starring Jennifer Lopez. The film featured Armie Hammer in the cast, but the actor left production after accusations of abuse and cannibalism.
According to Variety magazine, Sonia will play Darcy’s mother (Jennifer Lopez), the protagonist of the plot. The publication also confirms that actor Josh Duhamel (Transformers) has been confirmed in Hammer’s place as Tom, Darcy’s husband.
Among the novelties, the publication also confirms the actress Jennifer Coolidge, known for playing the “mother of Stifler” in the American Pie franchise, as the person responsible for playing the mother of Duhamel’s character.
In the plot, the couple Tom and Darcy decide to reunite their families for the long-awaited wedding. Everything seems to be going well, until the party guests are taken hostage by bandits who invade the place.
Eric Westerman, president of production for Lionsgate, the studio responsible for the film, welcomed Duhamel to star in the film alongside Jennifer.
“We couldn’t be happier for our fiancees from Shotgun Weeddin,” Westerman said in a statement. “We know that Josh and Jennifer will be an attractive and sexy couple on screen and that they will be fun training partners as the wedding of their dreams turns into a memorable nightmare.”
The executive also praised the arrival of Sonia and Jennifer (Coolidge) and talked about how his praised works in previous comedies can contribute to the success of the film.
“We are excited to bring Jennifer and Sonia to our cast as mothers of the bride and groom,” said Westerman. “His comedy talents will add another fun layer to this already rich action comedy,” he concluded.
Directed by Jason Moore, shooting for Shotgun Wedding is scheduled to begin in the Dominican Republic later this month.
