The 78th edition of the Golden Globe will take place this Sunday (28th), and the bets on who will take home the main statuettes of the night are in full swing in the United States. Simulations made by the main specialized portals point out that Netflix appears as a big favorite of the night, led by the nominations of The Crown and O Gambito da Rainha (2020).

A survey by the Gold Derby website, famous for making predictions and bets for the main Hollywood awards, placed Netflix as a winner in almost all the main categories of the night: best drama film (The Chicago 7), best drama series (The Crown) and best miniseries (O Gambito da Rainha).

The main streaming service in the world still appears as a favorite to carry some statuettes in the acting and technical categories. For The Crown, the site points to Emma Corrin as the winner of the award for best actress in a drama series, while Gillian Anderson would take the award for supporting actress.

In the men’s wing, Netflix would also secure the award for best actor in a drama series, with Jason Bateman being won for his work in Ozark.

In order to reach these conclusions, Gold Derby collected bets from several media: the predictions of dozens of expert journalists from the main American entertainment media; portal publishers who cover the awards each year; the 24 site users who achieved the highest scores in 2020; the 24 with the best average score on the site in the last two years, and forecasts by thousands of readers.

The website’s forecasts are in line with those of major vehicles in the middle, such as Variety and Vogue magazines, excluding only a few exceptions.

In the category of best series, the dispute would be between Ted Lasso and Schitt’s Creek (2015-2020), the big winner of Emmy 2020. Running out would be The Great, Hulu miniseries pointed out by the Hollywood Reporter as the favorite.

Chadwick Boseman (1976-2020), the eternal Black Panther, appears as one of the few unanimities on the lists. The 2021 Golden Globe could mark the first posthumous victory for a black actor, with the work of the star in The Supreme Voice of the Blues (2020) – which would also give another statuette to Netflix.

Also highly rated is Borat: Next Cinema Tape (2020), one of the great surprises of last year’s Prime Video. The feature film and protagonists Sacha Baron Cohen and Maria Bakalova appear as favorites to win the categories of best comedy film.

The protagonist of The Queen’s Gambit, one of Netflix’s top recent hits, Anya Taylor-Joy is also singled out by Vogue, Variety and Entertainment Weekly as voters’ darling to bring the statuette of best actress in a miniseries or film to TV. If the victory is achieved, the 24-year-old actress would win in her first Golden Globe nomination.

For now, all these lists of winners and favorites are nothing more than speculation. The real chosen ones will only be known from 10 pm on this Sunday, with the Golden Globes ceremony showing. In Brazil, the TNT paid channel is responsible for showing the event.
