The NBA’s bet on digital courses to make basketball in the country massively

A NBA, the most important professional basketball league in the world, is launching a platform in Brazil with digital courses with the aim of popularizing the sport in the country. Call of jr. nba, the platform will initially have an unprecedented training course for physical education technicians, teachers and instructors.

Brazil is the third largest NBA market in the world, behind only the United States and China. There is an estimated 44 million American League fan base in the country, and massing the sport through its impact on children and teenagers will not only expand this potential audience, but also serve health and wellness promotion goals.

The course consists of six modules with a 40-hour load and a methodology developed by NBA professionals in partnership with Impulsa, Instituto Península’s sports education program.

The pioneering initiative in Brazil aims to train around 10,000 professionals by the end of the year, with a multiplier effect on children who will have access to the teaching method approved by the NBA.

The league invited renowned athletes and sports idols to participate in the program, many of whom have NBA and WNBA experience, such as Anderson Varejão, Damiris Dantas, Alex Garcia, Clarissa dos Santos, Alessandra Oliveira, Guilherme Giovanonni and Helen Luz: they will bring information, testimonials and experiences to coaches.

“We brought together the best professionals to present the best curriculum for our market. We created a model that intends to revolutionize the concepts of training in the country, focusing on teaching and promoting basketball,” he said Rodrigo Vicentini, Head of the NBA in Brazil, To EXAM.

“The jr. nba platform will impact millions of young people and children over the next few years through educators, who will receive content and a complete methodology in terms of learning, techniques and support,” he said.

In the coming months, there will be videoconferences and panels for teachers, technicians and instructors. They will have access to information about rules, images, exercises, supporting audiovisual content, suggestions for activities and tips to adapt space and structure for classes.

“The course was designed for sports practice at any level, whether in more prepared environments or in spaces with fewer resources, in addition to light communication, with interaction also through social networks,” said Vicentini.

In addition, coaches and educators will have access to interactive activities and will be able to participate in a benefits program with the right to exchange points for official NBA products.

The NBA initiative comes at a time when millions of children and teenagers were deprived of physical activity: seven out of ten young people did not exercise during the pandemic, according to UNICEF reports.

Eight out of ten young Brazilians between 11 and 17 years old do not exercise regularly, and one in three children is considered obese, according to the World Health Organization. It is a condition that was aggravated by the coronavirus pandemic.

To engage this audience, the NBA will present “Desafio Geração jr. nba” on jr. nba on YouTube and Instagram. The goal: to find new digital content creators for the platform’s channels in Brazil.

The jr platform nba follows the guidelines of the National Common Curriculum Base and is certified by the NBA, Impulsa and Instituto Singularidades, the teacher training faculty of Instituto Península.
