Elegant. Sporty. Functional. Robust. Versatile. Here are some of the adjectives – there are several others – that TAG Heuer sees in the new generation of Aquarecer. It was presented today by Swiss watchmaking during the Watches & Wonders, the prestigious fair organized by the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie, in Geneva – all participating brands, as you can imagine, are resorting to virtual launches.

The new TAG watch was named Aquaracer Professional 300. With a 12-faceted bezel, it is identifiable from afar. Like its predecessors, it is aimed at both formal occasions and leisure moments.
The collection’s history goes back to 1978, when the brand launched a diving watch called Heuer. It had a striking dial, a 24-hour red scale and a rotating dive bezel with a transparent minute scale. It did not take long to fall in love with professional divers and amateurs.
“The Aquaracer Professional 300 continues a venerated history and, from there, takes the most significant step in developing our Aquaracer collection in many years,” said Frédéric Arnault, CEO of TAG Heuer, then trumpeting high functionality and aesthetics bold and unmistakable novelty.
Since 1983, the collection has been characterized by the unidirectional rotating bezel, the threaded crown, water resistance up to at least 200 meters in depth, the luminous markers, the sapphire crystal and the double safety clasp – which, remember , needs to work both on the surface and on the seabed. The designers of TAG Heuer were tasked with the thorny mission of updating all of this.
The basic shape of the bezel has been retained, but it is now more scratch resistant and easier to pick up and rotate. The sapphire crystal has been integrated with a magnifying glass, which makes reading the date easier from some angles. Another improvement: there are now eight octagonal hour markers and the crown has 12 sides.
We missed the fact that the hour hand is wider and has the shape of a sword and that the minute hand is narrower – it makes all the difference to see in dark environments. Speaking of which, the hour hands and markers gained green luminescence and the minute hands blue.
The Aquaracer Professional 300 has versions with boxes of 43 and 36 mm. Six are made of stainless steel, with a choice of black, blue or silver dials, and there is also a 43 mm matte titanium model with green dial.
Note that the stainless steel models have a black or blue ceramic detail with a white and luminescent triangle at 12 o’clock. The titanium model has a green ceramic detail with a yellow triangle at 12 o’clock. Water resistance is up to 300 meters.
Still with no price announced, the new models of the Aquaracer line will be on sale from June this year.
