Tom Cruise no Top Gun original

Original film became a cinema classic

Top Gun: Maverick is just one of the most anticipated films of the coming months due to the success of the original feature. Launched in 1986, Aces Indomáveis not only cast Tom Cruise as an action star, it was the biggest box office that year, with just over $357 million (R$1.8 billion at the current rate) taken — a surprising number for the time.

Top Gun’s success was recognized at the Oscars the following year. The film received four nominations and took home the best original song statuette for Take My Breath Away by the American band Berlin — the song would also win the Golden Globes.

Directed by Tony Scott (1944-2012), the original feature tells the story of when Maverick arrived at flying school to refine his skills as an elite pilot. His irresponsible attitude and arrogant behavior put him in confrontation with other pilots, but a dangerous mission forces them to overcome their differences to survive.
