Interned for treatment against Covid-19 in the ICU of a hospital in Rio de Janeiro, Paulo Gustavo presented an aggravation of his clinical condition on Friday (2) and needed to change the treatment to which he was submitted, starting to undergo oxygen therapy by extracorporeal membrane (Ecmo).
“We opted for the start of adjunctive therapy with Ecmo in order to allow a better recovery of lung function. After the worsening occurred, the situation remains stable in the last hours,” said the medical bulletin.
Paulo Gustavo has been hospitalized since March 13, having been intubated on March 21. Three days later, he began to show improvement in his condition, and since then, he has shown evolution in his condition. Because he suffers from asthma, a respiratory disease, he is part of the risk group for the disease.
