Considered the best surgeon in Grey’s Anatomy, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) ended up on the other side of the hospital routine in the episode shown on Tuesday (23) by Sony Channel. Diagnosed with Covid-19, the doctor harassed her co-workers and proved to be the worst patient in the world.
After being found passed out and hallucinating with her dead husband Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) at the end of last week’s episode, the protagonist of the medical drama continues to have visions with the neurosurgeon in My Happy Ending. When trying to run to hug him, however, she finds herself parked in the same place.
The (subtle) metaphor is that Meredith cannot move on with her life while she is stuck in the past. And that means not only Derek, who died in an accident nearly five years ago, but also friend Alex Karev (Justin Chambers), who left the hospital to seek happiness last year.
Once again on the verge of death, the doctor experienced by Ellen Pompeo is forced to revise her plans if her condition becomes irreversible. Before, she had chosen Karev as her emergency contact, to decide whether the devices that keep her alive should be turned off.
With him across the country, Meredith needs to elect a new person closer to her, but understands that her sister, Maggie (Kelly McCreary), and her sister-in-law, Amelia (Caterina Scorsone), are too emotional to make such an important decision without letting go of family ties.
At the same time, the now patient makes the lives of the doctors responsible for her case hell, Teddy (Kim Raver) and DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti). She tries to diagnose herself, suggests treatments for herself and, aware of all Gray Sloan protocols, she still finds loopholes to be discharged from the hospital ahead of time.
Teddy, in addition to the pressure of caring for Meredith, still has to deal with personal problems – she was abandoned by Owen (Kevin McKidd) after he found out he was betrayed on his wedding day. Maggie even confronts her to find out if she can handle the case – at the moment, she cannot be the usual doctor and needs “just” to be the neurosurgeon’s sister.
Jackson, Taryn and Link were the comic relief
In the midst of so much drama, comic relief is once again up to Link (Chris Carmack). The handsome doctor temporarily leaves paternity leave to take care of the case of a man who injured his hand. He, Jackson (Jesse Williams) and Taryn (Jaicy Elliot) quickly discover that the patient is, in fact, a sex therapist, who teaches his clients to achieve maximum pleasure – with the promise of 37 female orgasms in one relationship.
From the situation, there are several jokes about pleasure, sex and how much this type of therapy is necessary during the period of social isolation. After a long day, Link returns home and decides to apply what he has learned to make Amelia relax – after all, Derek’s sister is taking care of four children at home and having to deal with her sister-in-law’s possibly fatal illness.
At the end of the episode, Meredith chooses Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) to be her new emergency contact and, free of this bond, finally manages to run across the beach towards Derek.
What does this mean for her health? Just watching the next episode to find out … The Sony Channel airs the 17th season of Grey’s Anatomy every Tuesday at 9pm.
