Allen vs. Farrow, HBO’s documentary series on abuse allegations against iconic director Woody Allen, had the best debut in two years of a production of its kind on the premium channel. Adding to its display on TV and streaming, the first episode was seen by about a million people.
The brand puts Allen vs. Farrow as the best debut of a documentary series since March 10, 2019, when the first episodes of The Case Against Adnan Syed estreou na HBO.
The production examines allegations of abuse that Dylan Farrow, Allen’s adopted daughter with ex-wife Mia Farrow, has made against his ex-stepfather for many years.
The HBO series gathers court documents, interviews and home videos made by Mia Farrow, including tapes where Dylan, then 7, recounts being sexually abused by Allen in an attic in his Connecticut home in 1992.
The series reviews Dylan’s account, both as a child and now as an adult, and the custody battle that broke out between his parents after he became romantically involved with Mia’s adopted daughter Soon-Yi Previn.
After showing the first episode on Sunday (21), Allen and Soon-Yi sent a statement to the press through a spokesman criticizing HBO’s production and describing the reports as liars.
“These documentary filmmakers had no interest in the truth. Instead, they spent years surreptitiously collaborating with the Farrows and their facilitators to put together a hatchet job filled with falsehoods. Woody and Soon-Yi were approached less than two months ago and had just a few days to respond. Of course, they refused to do so, “says the statement.
Despite being responsible for the documentary, HBO sent an official statement to TheWrap website informing that all Allen films present in the HBO Max catalog will continue to be available to its subscribers.
“These titles will remain available in our library to allow viewers to make their own decisions about watching the work,” wrote a representative for the premium channel.
Recently, Woody Allen was one of Conversal’s guests with Biel and defended himself against the charges. In the opinion of the Oscar-winning filmmaker, the cancellation that has suffered by the public is a mistake.
Divided into four parts, Allen vs. Farrow will be shown on HBO always on Sundays, with new episodes being made available on streaming services on the channel following.
