After three postponements in the last week, the World Surf League (WSL) 2021 began today at 11:30 am, offshore San Clemente, California.
With four representatives, both in the men’s category and the Olympic champion italo Ferreira, Gabriel Medina and Filipe Toledo, as for the women’s category with Tatiana Weston-Webb, the country will have a totally Brazilian men’s podium with Filipe’s victory in the heats.
In an unprecedented format, Filipe Toledo won the second round against Conner Coffin. The surfer from Ubatuba will face Italo and whoever wins will compete for the title with Medina.
If he wins the competition, Italo Ferreira will be two-time world champion, as he won in 2019 (in 2020 there was no competition). In addition, he will be the first surfer to win the world title and an Olympic gold in the same year.
The broadcast can be watched live via the ESPN channel and the WSL YouTube channel live.
