Like the predecessor W11, the new car is painted black, in clear allusion to the fight against racism waged by Hamilton and the whole team, but starts to mix the color used in the 2020 car with a return to the traditional silver
Current seven times champion of the Constructors ‘and Drivers’ World Championship, with English Lewis Hamilton, a Mercedes presented on Tuesday, 2, his car for the 2021 season of Formula 1. At a virtual event, the German team, which is based in Brackley, England, officially launched the W12 E Performance, the name of the new model. Like the predecessor W11, the new car is painted black, in clear reference to the fight against racism encamped by Hamilton and by the whole team, but starts to mix the color used in the 2020 car with a return to the traditional silver. What also drew attention was the leading role of the AMG brand in painting, a high-performance division of the German automaker and which is also part of the official name of the seven-time world champion. The green Petronas, which belongs to the Malaysian oil company, the main sponsor of Mercedes, is also present, as well as the red one on top of the car, from the petrochemical giant Ineos, sponsor and the new shareholder of the team.
The pilots follow the same. Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas they will repeat the formation of the team again, which is the same since the arrival of the Finn in 2017. And each one comes with a different objective. The Englishman comes from the soap opera involving his renovation and is on a one-year contract, but reaches 2021 seeking to make history. In addition to the possibility of becoming the greatest champion of Formula 1, with the octa, he can reach the historic marks of 100 victories and 100 poles. Bottas, on the other hand, comes from an irregular 2020 and will try his best to deliver better results, since he can leave the team at the end of his contract in December this year.

Mercedes boss since 2013, Toto Wolff made it clear that, despite so many achievements and titles, there is no room for comfort. “Every year, we redefine our focus and set the right goals. This may seem easy, but it is very difficult and that is probably why there are no sports teams with seven consecutive titles. Many things can happen, and it is natural to get used to success and, therefore, not fight so hard for it ”, he explained. “But this team did not show any of that. I see the same flame, desire and passion the first time I entered through these doors, in 2013. Each season presents a new challenge and, therefore, a new goal for us to reach ”, declared the leader, with the clear objective of seeking two more titles for the team. The first official track test of these cars will be at the pre-season collective session, scheduled for the Sakhir circuit, in Bahrain, between the next 12th and 14th. Two weeks later, on the weekend of 28 March and in the same track, the Bahrain Grand Prix opens the 2021 Formula 1 season.
