The Argentine star scored twice and also helped Barça win; Catalan team now has a commitment against PSG, for the Champions League
On a day of show and beautiful performances, Barcelona won the Alaves scoring 5-1 at the Camp Nou. The Catalan team had, once again, the brightness of Lionel Messi, who scored two of the five goals that led to victory in the match for the 23rd round of the Spanish Championship. With the great result, Barcelona is in second place in the table, with 46 points. However, to maintain the vice-leadership depends on the result of the Real Madrid, with the same 46 points, who will face Valencia this Sunday. Alavés is in 16th place, with 22 points.
Barcelona entered the field very offensive and free to carry out their plays. The goal, however, took a while to come out. At 6 minutes, Messi had already made two attempts and, in the duel with goalkeeper Pacheco, ended up taking the worst in front of two good defenses from his rival. The first scare for the team led by coach Ronald Koeman was in the 26th minute, when midfielder Battaglia took over and demanded a great save from Ter Stegen. The threat from Alavés was for this reason because when receiving a ball from Moriba, striker Trincão did not hesitate, hit the first, on 28 minutes, and opened the scoring for Barcelona. Messi continued to appear and almost doubled the lead on 33 minutes, but an offside had already been scored. A few minutes later, another goal of the ace was canceled because he received a pass from an already blocked Griezmann. But it would not be long before the Argentine striker left his mark and, in addition, with a slight touch on the post, Messi managed to stuff the goalkeeper Pacheco’s nets.
In the second half, the Catalan team imposed their football and put on a show. The first dangerous move of the stage was Rioja’s goal, diminishing the advantage and giving hopes of a draw for Alavés, at 11. Barcelona’s offensive, however, gained more breath with the opponent’s goal and, at 16, Trincão misses a great chance to increase the difference when receiving from the Frenchman Griezmann and kicking first, straight for the defense of Pacheco. The French striker also had his chance, at 20, when he was touched by Messi and already hit the goal, awkwardly and wasted the opportunity.
The show, however, was yet to come and started at 28, with Trincão opportunely taking advantage of Messi’s surplus and sending straight inside. A minute later, Messi stepped in and scored again, with no chance of Pacheco’s defense. The beautiful victory was ratified by Firpo, who, on 34 minutes, received a pass from Griezmann and once again rocked the Alavés nets. Barcelona’s next appointment is the duel against Paris Saint-Germain, on Tuesday, for the round of 16 of the Champions League. In other games this Saturday, Sevilla beat Huesca 1-0 at home, while Eibar and Valladolid drew 1-1 at the stadium of the former.
