The good relationship between the manager of Nacho and River with Rodrigo Caetano, former director of Inter and now at Atlético-MG, was the basis for the negotiation to be established
The businessman Nacho Fernandez, Daniel González, stated that the Argentine midfielder had signed a three-year contract with Atlético Mineiro. The Brazilian club has not yet officially confirmed the existence of the agreement, but the player’s agent assured that the negotiation has already been concluded and he no longer plays for River Plate. In an interview with Buenos Aires’ TyC Sports broadcaster, González assured that Nacho Fernández will play for Atlético. “At night we closed the deal. The River Plate managers behaved very well. They did not put any obstacles in the way ”, explained the agent, who also explained the reason why the agreement with Internacional, another club to be proposed by the Argentine, had not occurred before. “Other proposals have appeared before, but he was always very comfortable at the club. The coach (Marcelo Gallardo) protected him, they won everything and then every time something came up he felt he had to give the team a little more. For this reason, he did not go to Internacional, even though he knew that economically the proposal was fabulous ”, amended González.
The good relationship between the manager of Nacho and River with Rodrigo Caetano, former director of Inter and now at Atlético-MG, was essential, according to the agent, for the negotiation to be settled. “There was the help of the football director of Atlético Mineiro, who is the same as Inter de Porto Alegre and who wanted to take him. It gets a little easier. So, there were details to finish, each side pulls a little and finished. Nacho is already 31 years old, and in the conversation we had with the president (of River, Rodolfo D’Onofrio), he promised me that if they got something that River wanted, he would sell it. And fulfilled. We are very grateful. And we managed to do it ”, he added.
He also pointed out that Nacho’s idea is to return to Argentina in the future and retire on River, where he is well liked and treated as an idol. “We hope to return, finish the three years in Brazil and hopefully I can retire on River. He leaves a good image and is grateful to everyone ”, commented the businessman. According to Diário Olé and Argentina’s TyC Sports channel, Atlético will pay River Plate about US $ 6 million (approximately R $ 32 million) for the player’s acquisition, in addition to productivity bonuses if the midfielder reaches the goals stipulated in the contract.
Nacho Fernández won seven titles with the River Plate jersey. The main one is the 2018 Copa Libertadores against Boca Juniors in a historic final played in Madrid. In addition, he won three cups of the Argentina Cup (2016, 2017 and 2019), the 2018 Super Cup and two South American Recopas (2016 and 2019). In total, in five seasons, since his arrival from Gimnasia La Plata in 2016, the experienced midfielder has played 186 matches for the Millionaires, with 31 goals scored and 24 assists. He should disembark in Belo Horizonte this week to perform medical examinations and sign a contract.
