The end of FIFA Club World Cup and the return of Palm Trees to Brazil leave the Portuguese coach Abel Ferreira with a problem to solve for the next few weeks. The team’s participation in the Qatar caused the backlog of games to accumulate Brazilian championship and the final five matches are a bit of a setback for those who are actually looking for another competition. The team has no more goals in the Brasileirão and will still need to use the period to prepare for the decision of the Brazil’s Cup. At the end of this journey, 77 commitments will have accumulated in the 2020 season.

This Sunday the team resumes the campaign when receiving the strength, at the Allianz Parque stadium, in São Paulo. Three days later it will be the turn to face the Coritiba, in Curitiba. On Friday, the commitment is the classic with São Paulo. The final two rounds will be on Monday and Thursday of the following week. First against the Atlético Goianiense, in São Paulo, and finally Atlético-MG, in Belo Horizonte. Only three days after the game in Minas Gerais will it be the turn to decide the Copa do Brasil against the Guild. The outward departure will be in Porto Alegre and the return is scheduled for a week later, at Allianz Parque, on March 7th. Between one decision and another it is likely that the team will still have to make a valid match for the 2021 Paulista Championship.

The sequence of games makes Palmeiras have played 12 times just in 2021 and entered the field in 70 official matches since the beginning of the season, in January 2020. The team has not had a free week to train since August. Therefore, the schedule with matches accumulated for the next weeks challenges the team to recover physically and to have time to prepare for the confrontation with Grêmio. “We have the opportunity to mark the season here, we have two more titles to win (Copa do Brasil and Recopa Sul-Americana). It could be one of the most special years for Palmeiras. We are going back to Brazil, regretting the defeats, it was not what we wanted, but we know that we can improve. We can win again and play well for the titles ahead of us ”, explained goalkeeper Weverton after the match against Al Ahly, by the decision of the third place in the Club World Cup.

Another job will also be to recover morale. Palmeiras returned from Qatar with two bad results. “We arrived here with merit, we will learn from this experience. It is with these games that we prepare for what lies ahead. We already have a title, now we have a few more opportunities ahead of us to conquer and we will be prepared to conquer ”, said the coach. The club will have accumulated this season the maximum number of official games possible for a Brazilian team to play in the current format of the calendar. Palmeiras played 12 games from January to March, when football was paralyzed because of the pandemic of the new coronavirus. Since returning in July, he has played 58 more engagements. Now there are seven more left, five of which are from the Brasileirão and two more from the Copa do Brasil.
