Uruguayan international Luis Suárez, who now plays for Atlético de Madrid, revealed in an interview with France Football, some heartache over the way he was released from FC Barcelona at the end of last season.
“What really bothered me was that I was told that I was too old to be at the top and that I could no longer play at the highest level, to be the striker of a great team. That’s what I didn’t like ”, started by explaining the footballer.
“If I hadn’t done anything for three or four seasons, I realized. But he scored more than 20 goals every year and always had the best numbers behind Messi, ”recalled Suárez, who is now the best scorer in the Spanish league alongside the Argentine international, both with 16 goals scored.
The Uruguayan also said that the way his departure was treated by the Catalan emblem gave him more strength to show his value at Atlético de Madrid: “For my pride, I wanted to show them that I could continue to show what I am still worth. In the same interview, Suarez addressed still the current situation of FC Barcelona, who drew the last game to count for the Spanish league (1-1) and who lost against PSG counting for the round of 16 of the Champions League (4-1).
“Today you can see that playing for Barcelona is not easy. Many players were hired and did not reach the level they expected. I played there for six years and always kept the level high. Circumstances changed, the club needed changes and I understand that. What I don’t understand is the way I left. He deserved respect! ”, He stressed.
Messi had already publicly expressed displeasure for the way his friend and teammate had been excused from Camp Nou.
Using social media, Messi considered Luis Suárez one of the best players in the history of the Catalan team and left harsh criticisms of the club’s management, considering that the Uruguayan should not have left the club this way.
