Curiosity surrounding the Trofa team, which did not go beyond the first game in the League Cup. “It’s the Roberto Leal team”.
O Trofense achieved a return to professional football competitions and, therefore, had the right to participate in the League Cup. But it didn’t go beyond the first game: they lost at home to the Sporting da Covilhã by 0-3, in one of the matches of the first phase of the tournament.
The visiting team was almost always superior to the hosts and has already won at half-time. Diogo Almeida, already in the first half, scored the first goal. In the first 20 minutes of the second half, Sporting da Covilhã closed the result: André Almeida e Job Baptist scored.
Trofense spawned a curiosity rarely seen. The 11 holders were: Rogério Santos, Tito Júnior, João Paulo, Marcos Valente, Simão Martins, Tiago André, Andrézinho, Bruno Almeida, Vasco Rocha, Adilson Silva and Bruno Moreira. The seven alternates were: Rodrigo Moura, Lionn, Caio Marcelo, Keffel, Matheus Índio, Gustavo Furtado and Luiz Pachu.
In other words, coach Rui Duarte chose 11 Portuguese holders (although Tito Júnior was born in Guinea-Bissau); and all the footballers who were alternates this sunday are Brazilians. “It’s the Roberto Leal team,” commented one fan.
In this opening phase of the League Cup there was a team, overall, more Portuguese than Trofense: the Penafiel had eight Portuguese in the starting team but all the substitutes were Portuguese – among the 19 called up, 16 are Portuguese.
Portimonense, Gil Vicente, Estrela da Amadora, Mafra, Académico de Viseu, Sporting da Covilhã, Famalicão, Farense, Penafiel, Rio Ave, Arouca, Estoril and Boavista qualified for the second phase. Some teams from the I League have already been removed: Tondela, Vizela, Belenenses SAD, Moreirense and Marítimo.
The second phase is almost all “designed”. All that remains is to determine the winner of the first phase game between Vitória de Guimarães and Leixões, which will be held this Monday.
League Cup, 2nd phase:
P. Ferreira – Gil Vicente
Famalicão – Estoril
Amateur Est – Penafiel
Sp. Covilhã – Mafra
Arouca – River Ave
Farense – Santa Clara
Boavista – Portimonense
Casa Pia – V. Guimarães or Leixões
