Klopp has already said that he will not allow players to appear in the national team if they have to comply with quarantine and Solskjaer is considering doing the same. Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Jota are at risk.
“Does not make sense losing a player for 10 days of isolation ”, said Manchester United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, referring to countries where athletes have to quarantine after returning. As such, the ‘red devils’ consider preventing Bruno Fernandes from coming to the Portuguese team.
The decision would not be surprising, given that Jürgen Klopp did the same, warning that Liverpool will not allow players to appear on their national teams if the country requires them to comply with quarantine.
Affected by this decision are Portuguese Diogo Jota and Brazilians Alisson, Fabinho and Roberto Firmino. Portugal and Brazil are on the list of countries subject to a 10-day quarantine upon entry into the United Kingdom.
“We don’t have to let go of the players and all the clubs agree that we shouldn’t let them go if they have to comply with a 10-day quarantine ”said Klopp. “Everyone cannot be content and the truth is that it is we, the clubs, who pay the players. We have to have priority ”.
There is still no decision on the side of Manchester United, but Solskjaer adds that the club is considering following the same policy.
“We are the ones who pay the players and from what I understand about this rule, FIFA determined that they do not have to be released for the national teams, so I think it will be a difficult decision to let them go and play in countries on the red list”, said the Norwegian coach.
This way, Bruno Fernandes may be inhibited from representing the national team while Portugal is on the UK’s red list.
“I want Bruno ready for Brighton and I hope we can continue in Europe and against Tottenham after the international break, ”added Solskjaer.
Rui Patrício, Nélson Semedo, Rúben Dias, João Moutinho, João Cancelo, Rúben Neves, Bernardo Silva and Pedro Neto are other Fernando Santos regulars who play in England and may be affected. However, their respective clubs have not yet positioned themselves regarding calls to the national teams.
