Vlachodimos is dissatisfied for having lost his place between the posts to Helton Leite. The Greek goalkeeper had been without goals for two games before he stopped playing.
Odysseas Vlachodimos lost his place in the Benfica goal to Helton Leite and, according to the newspaper Record, the goalkeeper feels wronged. The Greek believes that the justification given by Jorge Jesus for the loss of ownership is unfair.
The Benfica coach explained the team had suffered “some goals in easy situations” and that it was necessary to go “Looking for alternatives, changing some players”. However, Vlachodimos came from two straight games without conceding goals, against Vitória de Guimarães and Famalicão.
Vlachodimos is four games away from the starting eleven, and the series started with the absence in the first leg of the Portuguese Cup semi-finals against Estoril. Jorge Jesus’ decision was not surprising, since it was not the first time that the ‘red’ coach had bet on the Brazilian for the queen event.
However, the Greek goalkeeper was again left out against Moreirense, Arsenal and, more recently, Farense. In these four meetings, the Benfica conceded three goals, winning only the match against Estoril and drawing the rest.
One of the reasons that could have caused Vlachodimos to fall from the starting eleven was the mistake made in Alvalade, which gave Sporting CP the victory.
Odysseas Vlachodimos fulfills his third season at Estádio da Luz, after being signed in 2018 by Panathinaikos. In turn, Helton Leite is in his debut season for the ‘eagles’, having been bought from Boavista this season.
