O Clubhouse live audio app removed its invitation-only access system so that anyone can join its platform, the company said on Wednesday.
The social network, which saw explosive growth during the first few months of the pandemic, stated that it had always planned to be open to the public and that access via invitation had been a way of containing the numbers of users.
The Clubhouse currently faces a number of rivals, including the giant social networks Facebook and Twitter, as well as companies from streaming audio like the Spotify. The company said it has added 10 million users since the release of the app version for Android in May.
The company, which said its staff had grown from January 8 to 58 people, launched a feature for direct messages last week.
