The Subjects Expert Committee will discuss on Wednesday the application filed seeking permission for the emergency use of the corona virus vaccine Sputnik v in India. Dr. Reddy’s Laboratory in Hyderabad has approached DCGI (Drugs Control General of India) regarding the use of this vaccine. The company revealed that they will submit the second phase testing security data as well as the third phase testing data as part of the review process. The company said it had entered into an agreement with the Russian Direct Investment Fund in September last year for the testing and delivery of Sputnik V in India. The third phase of the vaccine is currently being tested in the country.
Two vaccines have already been made available for emergency use. The first nationwide vaccination program began on January 16. The second dose was then administered from the 13th of this month. Kovshield and Kovagin vaccines are given to front line workers and medical personnel. Already more than 42 percent of staff have been vaccinated. Russia is also seeking to have the Sputnik V vaccine approved for emergency use in the wake of rising Kovid cases in the country. Russia has already requested permission to do so in India.
