You may have already noticed that the Instagram is not just an app for sharing photos. There is the section of stories and reels that bring another kind of dynamism to the platform. In the view of Instagram head Adam Mosseri, the network is no longer a photo-sharing app.
In a video posted on his personal account on June 30th, he presented the platform’s new bets, which should be revamped or launched soon. The four fields involve content creators, videos, shopping, and messaging.
“We are no longer a photo sharing app. In a survey, the first thing people say about using Instagram, they say it’s for entertainment. People come to us for this. Last week, I shared internally our efforts in trying to guide us on this path, of entertainment and video. We need to be serious, we have a great competition right now,” said Mosseri.
The Instagram boss specifically cited a major competitor, TikTok. “TikTok is huge, YouTube is even bigger and it’s also taking big steps. People are looking to Instagram for entertainment and we have a lot of competition, and we need to embrace that. Which means that we will have changes”, he stated.
He also said that in the coming months, users will see more room for recommendations, with profiles or content in the feed that people still don’t follow. In addition, the platform wants to increase its strength with video content focused on mobile production.
According to the Statista data platform, TikTok has 732 million active users worldwide. Instagram is ahead with 1.2 billion. But the growth of the social network created in China is resounding. It is the most downloaded app in the world. We recently released the three minute version of videos.
