The current CEO and founder of Amazon, billionaire Jeff Bezos, announced on Tuesday, 2, that he is starting a transition process and that he will step down this quarter. Bezos will remain in the company, occupying another executive role.
In a letter to company employees, which was made public on Amazon’s website, Bezos says he will be replaced by Andy Jassy, who is currently CEO of AWS, Amazon’s cloud computing and server provider service.
Bezos said that Jassy will be a “remarkable leader, and he has all my confidence”.
“This is a journey that started 27 years ago. Amazon was just an idea and had no name. The question I received the most at the time was ‘what is the internet?’. Blessedly, I haven’t had to answer that for a long time. ”
