Huawei’s new smartphone is foldable. However, the X2 has changes in the way of folding and is equipped with a new hinge with multidimensional design. The equipment will reach the Chinese market on February 25.
Huawei kept it a secret from the successor to the Mate XS – its first foldable smartphone unveiled in February last year. Fulfilling the promise left in relation to the date of presentation of the new equipment, the Chinese manufacturer now reveals to the world the new Mate X2.
In an online presentation, Richard Yu, executive director and CEO of Huawei’s consumer area, made known all the news about the foldable smartphone.
Mate X2 has a 8.01-inch high-resolution screen with a high refresh rate and an 8: 7.1 aspect ratio. The smartphone also has a 6.45-inch secondary OLED screen.
The big news is the new mechanism for the smartphone hinge. According to Yu, this one has a design multidimensional, allowing the equipment to be even smaller when folded, without any extra space between its parts.
The new mechanism includes a type of drop-shaped compartment to better store the screen when folded.
The central hinge has a zirconium-based liquid metal which, explained Richard Yu, should be three times more resistant than the metal that is typically used.
The CEO of Huawei stresses that the multidimensional multidimensional design of the new hinge also eliminates the problem of creases on the screen when the smartphone is folded.
In addition, through a carbon fiber panel, Huawei achieved a 75% reduction in the weight of the equipment. On the outside, Mate X2 features a “wedge” design, with one end of it having a thickness of 4.4 mm.
The thickest part is the one that contains the vast majority of sensors, including the module where the cameras are located. However, despite its unusual shape, the smartphone remains uniform when it is open or when it is closed.
The smartphone is equipped with a Kirin 9000 processor from Huawei. The 5 nanometer SoC has support for 5G through a modem developed for this purpose. THE total chip performance now has up to 90% improvements. The company ensures that the processor consumes power more efficiently, thanks to improvements in the CPU, GPU and NPU.
It also has a dual improved speaker system, has a 4,500 mAh battery, compatible with 55 W wireless charging, with a long autonomy and a 14% longer life.
At the photographic level, Mate X2 has a four lens rear configuration from Leica: a 50 MP main, a 16 MP, a 12 MP telephoto and an 8 MP SuperZoom. Due to the configuration of the foldable smartphone, users can use the rear cameras as selfie cameras. The front camera has a resolution of 16 MP.
The new gadget arrives on the Chinese market in two different configurations: one with 256 GB of storage and the other with 512 GB and should cost between 2,291.69 and 2,419.02 euros, respectively. It also has two new colors: crystal blue e crystal pink.
According to the New Atlas, Mate X2 will be available in China starting next February 25th.
