Prime Time Zone, Webdesk: Excavator is required to dig the ground or demolish large buildings. However, an Istro scientist from Thiruvananthapuram, Tamil Nadu, is turning a damaged car into an excavator and giving a proper meaning to reusability. This car cum excavator weighs 500 kg and can carry out excavations with a capacity of six tons. Now that the scientist has spent only 70 thousand rupees for this home made innovation, let’s find out its specialty.
Usually, most people buy a new car when their car gets old and sell the old one for a while. However, this rule does not apply to Istro scientist Ben Johnson. This is because his intention is to help the environment by retrofitting old vehicles into something useful. It was during this sequence that he converted his old car into an excavator. He worked hard for more than three months.
‘This is a mini crane .. It can be made using an old car at a cost of only 70 thousand. If you want to buy a commercial excavator in the market, the minimum is Rs. 20 lakhs have to be spent. Although my car is 20 years old and in good condition, I wanted to do something that would benefit the community. After many thoughts I got fixed to the mini crane. I have been working on this project since May and I have brought spare parts for it from Gujarat. I completed this in August as the lockdown restrictions delayed the arrival of the required products for the project. It can be used for excavation of ponds, roads, ditches and canals, ”Johnson said.
