Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha channels merged – Sansad TV: The Central Government has taken a crucial decision to ensure that viewers of Parliamentary activities no longer need to change TV channels. The Center has issued orders merging the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha TVs. It was revealed that the two channels were merged to form the Parliament TV. The new channel will air parliamentary proceedings and other announcements on Parliament TV. Former IAS officer Ravi Kapoor has been appointed CEO of Parliament TV. He will be in charge of the channel for a year. CEO Ravikampur is a 1986 batch IAS officer. A native of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, he served as the Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister of Assam. He also held responsibilities in various ministries.
Earlier, Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu had set up a panel headed by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to unite the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha TVs. The plan was proposed in 2019 by a committee of experts headed by Prasar Bharati CEO Surya Prakash. Plans were made to reduce costs, streamline channel management, and reach out to audiences and advertisers. Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla also approved it. With this, these two channels will be made into Parliament TV and will broadcast the activities of the Parliament. Manoj Kumar Pandey, who was the CEO of Rajya Sabha TV till now, has been removed from his post following the merger of Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha TVs. The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha secretariats have issued a statement to this effect. However, all the activities related to Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha TVs will also come under the purview of the Parliament.
