Xiaomi passes Apple and takes 2nd place in the smartphone market

Company accounted for 17% of mobile phone sales in the second quarter. Samsung is still the market leader

To smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi surpassed the Apple in the second quarter of 2021 and became the world’s second-largest manufacturer, according to a report by market analyst firm Canalys.

Xiaomi had 17% of sales in the period, up from 14% for Apple. Who follows in the lead is Samsung, which sold 19% of smartphones in the quarter.

According to the Canalys report, Xiaomi is rapidly expanding its market outside China, with sales increasing 300% in Latin America and 50% in Europe.

Xiaomi’s growth compared to last year was 83%, well above Apple and Samsung, which grew, respectively, 1% and 15%.
