Trinamool is all set to join the Congress party in the state of West Bengal. The sector is all set to join the TMC in the presence of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at an event in Hooghly today. Maitabenerji is scheduled to attend a campaign rally in Hooghly in Chinsurah district today as part of the campaign for the upcoming state assembly elections. According to party sources, cricketer Manoj Tiwary will be wearing a TMC scarf on the occasion.
Manoj Tiwary, 35, is currently the captain of the West Bengal cricket team. Manoj, popularly known as Chhota Dada in Bengal, also played 12 ODIs and three T20I matches for India. He represented Kolkata Knight Riders, Kings XI Punjab and Rising Pune Super Giants in the IPL.
The entry of cricketers into politics is nothing new. Cricketers like Azharuddin, Mohammad Kaif, Navjot Singh Sidhu and Gautam Gambhir represented the Indian team and later entered politics.
