The panchayat war in AP has led to tensions in many places and opened the door to factionalism in others. Opposition parties rallied during the panchayat elections in Anantapur district. One party sympathizes with another’s orthodoxy.
Unidentified assailants set fire to a peanut crop belonging to YSR sympathizer Boya Ramanjaneyulu of Mallapuram village in Uravakonda zone at midnight. The Ramanjaneyas are tenant farmers. The crop, which was harvested day and night, collapsed four days ago due to light showers and covered the field with a tarpaulin to prevent damage. The Ramanjaneyas were angry that some unidentified persons had set fire to some crop fields till last midnight.
The Ramanjaneyas’ family members were in tears that they had not betrayed anyone and that the haters had sided with them and committed this act. The thugs set fire to a pile yielding nearly a hundred bags ripe in ten years. This created a situation where they could not recover and the Ramanjaneyas begged for help. Family members and locals are demanding that the thugs be caught by the police and severely punished.
