The BES case has been stalled for eight months. The delay is due to a translation into French of the four thousand pages of the file, necessary to notify three Swiss defendants.

According to Newspaper, which advances the news this Thursday, the BES process is at a standstill and the defendants have been waiting for eight months to receive the accusation related to the case.

At issue is, according to the JN, a French translation of the four thousand pages of the case, which is delaying the notification of three Swiss defendants who, until this Wednesday afternoon, had not yet received the order.

Only after these defendants are notified is that it starts to count the deadline of 50 days given by Judge Carlos Alexandre so that the defendants can request the opening of an investigation.

Then, a judge will assess whether there is sufficient evidence for the BES case to go to trial.

According to the same newspaper, several defendants, including Ricardo Salgado, want to cancel the prosecution of the Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP).

The Public Prosecutor’s Office charged in mid-July 18 people and seven companies several economic and financial crimes in the lawsuit over Banco Espírito Santo (BES) and Grupo Espírito Santo (GES), in which the central figure is ex-banker Ricardo Salgado.

According to a note from the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), Ricardo Salgado was accused of 76 crimes, including criminal association, active corruption in the private sector, qualified fraud, money laundering and tax fraud, in the BES / GES case.

At stake in this investigation by the Central Department of Investigation and Penal Action (DCIAP) “is a more than eleven thousand eight hundred million euros “, as a result of the alleged crimes, and damages caused.

In addition to Ricardo Salgado, Amílcar Morais Pires and Isabel Almeida, former BES directors, are also defendants in this case.
