According to the accounts of the weekly Expresso, 23 deputies of the Assembly of the Republic, that is, 10% of the 230 that make up the hemicycle, are candidates for the autumn municipal elections.
On Thursday, a bill was passed in general that broadens the criteria that allow a parliamentarian to suspend the function and be replaced: serious illness, parental leave, legal proceedings and, now, “ponderous reasons of a personal or professional nature”, with a limit of six months per legislature.
In addition to the PSD, CDS and PAN approved projects in the same direction, now lacking negotiation in the specialty.
The Expresso accounted this Sunday, and revealed that 23 deputies of the Assembly of the Republic are candidates for municipal elections. António Gameiro (Ourém) and Pedro Coimbra (Penacova) joined a few days ago with 12 other deputy candidates from the PS.
Within the Government party, there remained doubt about the leader of the parliamentary bench, Ana Catarina Mendes, who was appointed to Setúbal. A socialist source said, however, that the list ends here: there are 14 deputies.
No PSD, five deputies take part in the municipal race, with Ricardo Baptista Leite, “certainly the most well-known deputies” in the country, launching to Sintra and the historic Fernando Negrão to Setúbal.
O Left Block it has three deputies already chosen, but nothing guarantees that the party will stop here. In the CDS, which has five deputies in the Assembly of the Republic, there is one closed for São João da Madeira: João Pinho de Almeida.
PCP, PAN, Liberal Initiative and Chega are at zero.
