The coordinator of the Left Bloc said that the Government has made approaches to the party in terms of correcting some announced support, but challenged the Executive to change the State Budget for 2021, so that support reaches those who need it.
Catarina Martins, coordinator of the Bloco de Esquerda, challenged this Monday the Government to correct the State Budget for 2021, which she already recognized was not enough, so that the supports reach those who need. In the same intervention, the blockade recognized some approximations of the Executive to the party.
Catarina Martins and deputies José Soeiro and Beatriz Gomes Dias met this Monday, virtually, with dozens of workers from the most diverse areas of culture who demand support and solutions for a sector in crisis.
“More than once [o Governo] came to correct the measures, but continues to make corrections too small and we continue to have so many people desperate for months for essential support for their survival. What is needed is for the Government to take this step and, once it has recognized that its budget is insufficient, then to correct it and guarantee support to everyone who needs it ”, he appealed.
Asked if it could be deduced from these words that a Budget is needed Rectifier, Catarina Martins said that the corrections that have already been made to the Budget for this year happened without resorting to this option. “I believe that this assessment the Government itself will have to make”, he replied only.
The blockade leader said that the party maintains the demand it has defended: “every worker who has lost income or lost income in a very significant way with the pandemic crisis must have access to a threshold support in poverty“.
Catarina Martins made a point of underlining that “the Government has made some approximations to the Bloco de Esquerda ”in the correction of the announced supports, but continues with“ rules and bureaucratic impediments to which the support arrives ”.
The BE coordinator was also confronted with statements by the Minister of State and Finance, João Leão, who in an interview with Antena 1 and to Business Journal warned BE that if it were to move away from the Budget negotiation process “just because the country is in a difficult situation”, then “it would no longer be useful for the country and for its governance”.
“Useful for the country is to have measures that respond to people’s lives. The Government has already admitted that its budget is insufficient and does not serve to respond to the social crisis“, answered.
The Block, guaranteed Catarina Martins, don’t invent anything and continues to say even in relation to the need for support that reaches people affected by the crisis.
