PDP chief and former CM Mehbooba Mupti commented, “Can we also handle the farmers’ agitation for the restoration of special status to Jammu and Kashmir?” She said the situation here was not good and they were talking about the resolution on Kashmir and the status of the state. “Like the farmers, we may have to fight for this,” he said. She said many countries around the world had responded to the food donors’ protest. She said they would not pray but would fight if the Center did not grant special status to Jammu and Kashmir. She questioned the Center as to why foreign delegates were invited here if they felt that the situation was all right in this Union Territory. Mehbooba said bunkers had been removed at several places in the area and no one was allowed to speak to those delegates. He said there were still 10 lakh security forces in the valley.
Meanwhile, several delegates from European countries visited Jammu and Kashmir yesterday and also toured various parts of the country on Thursday. The Center has also invited foreign delegates to assess the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. As a result of these developments, the Union Territory has been repeatedly mentioned in international fora such as the United Nations. Pakistan, with its backs to China and Turkey, has pointed to this as the same thing, accusing it of human rights abuses here.
