In Puducherry, the CM Narayanaswamy government fell into the minority. Congress MLA John Kumar resigned on Tuesday. Close to Chief Minister Narayanaswamy, he won the 2019 Kamaraj Nagar constituency by-election. John Kumar is the fourth person to resign so far. With his resignation, the strength of the Congress in the Puducherry Assembly fell to ten. The ruling and opposition parties have 14 members each. Yesterday, ministers Malladi Krishna Rao and A. Namasivayam resigned. Tippain Jain MLA resigns. Their resignations are creating a crisis as Congress leader Rahul Gandhi visits Puducherry on Wednesday. Elections to this Union Territory Assembly will be held soon. Senior party leader N Dhanavelu was disqualified in July last year for anti-party activities.
At present there are 30 seats in the Legislative Assembly..3 nominated seats ..
In the assembly 1. The 30 elected members include 15 members from the Congress, three from the DMK and one Independent. This means that the majority has crossed the mark of 16. Following the resignations, there were 14 members of the ruling and opposition parties. The strength of the Congress in the House as a whole has waned. Namasivayam and Tippee Yin Jain resigned on January 25 and joined the BJP. Namasivayam’s joining the party in particular is a big blow to the Congress party! A former president of the Puducherry Congress, he played a key role in co-ordinating and strengthening the Congress base here. Along with him, his supporters also left the Congress party.
Meanwhile, Malladi Krishna Rao, a close aide of Chief Minister Narayanaswamy, accompanied him to Delhi last week seeking the removal of state lieutenant governor Kiran Bedi. Such was the most surprising aspect of his resignation.
